From: Dr. Clint Freeman, Superintendent of Schools
As we begin the 2024-2025 school year, I wanted to take a moment to discuss the first days of school and bus routes. On the first days of school, several factors can contribute to delayed bus routes:
-
Heavy Traffic: Increased traffic due to parents dropping off students, new drivers on the road, and general back-to-school congestion can slow down buses.
-
New Routes: Drivers may be unfamiliar with their new routes, leading to slower travel times and delays.
-
Student Enrollment Changes: Changes in student addresses, new enrollments, or incorrect bus assignments can cause delays as routes are adjusted.
-
Boarding Delays: Younger students, particularly those new to the school system, may take longer to board and exit buses. We want to make sure we have everyone on the correct bus.
-
Weather Conditions: Inclement weather, like rain or fog, can cause slower driving speeds and delays.
To mitigate delays, we are asking parents to check their parent portal and ensure that their students know what bus they are riding as well as avoiding last minute changes to transportation as we kick-off the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you for allowing extra time during the first few days of school. We appreciate your patience and if you have questions please contact the transportation office at 636-479-5200 ext. 7008 or email bus@dunklin.k12.mo.us
